Spotlight on Keith Williams Only nine months after joining the Board of Directors, Keith Williams left the boardroom to become the club's first-ever commercial Manager and Youth Development Officer in March. This appointment helped the club tremendously in its aim to become much more professional following promotion to the Dr Martens League. Keith particularly enjoys developing the community side of the club's activities and aims to extend its coaching among school children, ladies and disabled, and of course to ensure the most talented duly line-up in Wisbech Town's colours Although you would never know it from his accent, Keith was born in Motherwell and moved to Hampshire with his parents when he was seven and then began his love affair with the club. After playing for Surrey county schoolboys, he went on to star as a goalkeeper with Aldershot Town and Aldershot Athletic. His first job was as trainee manager for the NAAFI and then became depot manager for a frozen food company and then sales rep for an engineering company and a firm of sports trophy manufacturers. Together with his wife Marie and sons Marcus, Keith (who plays for our reserves and youths) and match steward Derek, he moved to Wisbech 11 years ago. Prior to taking his present dual role he was a sales rep for John Morgan for eight years. His local soccer interest started as a goalkeeper and then manager for Bell Walsoken before Dick Cramton persuaded him to help with the youth team. He has always been involved in coaching and holds the FA coaching licence. Among his many soccer memories is the occasion he played for Farnborough against Bournemouth Reserves, who were managed by John Bond, whose son Kevin duly cracked three of Keith's ribs. Playing for the same team he helped Keep Billericay at bay in the FA Vase semi-final only be to be dropped for the replay which Farnborough lost 3-0. He also recalls playing alongside Malcolm Crosby, who went on to manage Sunderland, and Geoff Chappel, later to become manager of Woking and now Kingstonian. The biggest influence on his soccer career? Jimmy Sirrell at Aldershot, who later went on to achieve great things with Notts County. Now his job is to ensure a steady flow of cash and young talent into Fenland Park, so if you would like to help with any kind of sponsorship or know a talented young player, Keith would love to hear from you. |

Spotlight on Dennis Harris If you have bought a match-day draw ticket then you will undoubtedly have met Dennis Harris, a fervent football fan who pledged his allegiance to the Fenmen soon after arriving in the town in 1991. Born within a stone's throw of Highbury, Dennis has been a life long fan of the Gunners. He spent five years as an evacuee in Northampton and later moved with his parents to Gillingham and also looks for their results every Saturday. When only 15 he joined the RAF and served 15 years as a telegraphist. Not surprisingly when he was demobbed he stayed in communications for 25 years with Shell international, working his way up to junior manager in charge of technical publications for the entire Shell Group of companies. After being made redundant he and his wife Vivienne moved to Wisbech from Ruislip in 1991. They have a son Martin (39), who is a Sergeant in the Army, and a daughter Wendy (35), a security expert with British airways. A keen footballer, Dennis played for Uxbridge and Harefield in the old Corinthian League and later refereed for ten years. He also played county level Services badminton and squash. Now he enjoys gardening and chess. "When we moved here the Fenmen had just won the ECL, and I thought here is a team worth supporting," he explains. His favorite player? "Jackie Gallagher,- the crowd always started to buzz whenever he got the ball." Dennis is adamant the club were right going back up into the Southern League and is confident they will gain promotion to the Premier Division this season. So if you want to help his dream come true, make sure you buy lots of tickets from him next time you visit Fenland Park. |
